Centrum certification for forestry focus
Long-time proud recycler and environmentally conscious print provider, Centrum Printing, has further flexed its green credentials by receiving certification from two of the most prominent international sustainable forest management standards organisations.
The chain of custody standards certification awarded to Centrum Printing by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) has allowed the Sydney-based printer to step-up its environmental focus to include sustainably forest-managed paper products.
Until now, Centrum had attempted to maintain a point of difference in the marketplace with its ongoing commitment to environmentally-conscious practices such as recycling aluminium print plates, employing soy and vegetable-based inks and varnishes, and using biodegradable cleaning products for its presses and rollers.
However, according to Centrum Printing’s general manager, Sandra Mascaro, the new standards certification her company has received highlight just how much further many printing businesses can go to establish and maintain green practices.
“An environmental solution isn’t only about the use of recycled material. It demands a more holistic vision, encompassing everything from transport and recycling to waste management,” says Mascaro.
Chain of custody certification tracks certified material through the production process from the forest to the consumer in an effort to guarantee ethical and environmental standards. According to Mascaro, it was an ideal way for Centrum to further extend its environmental focus.
“We’re delighted to provide clients with FSC and PEFC Standards as a way to renew our pledge to a greener world and demonstrate our commitment to sustainability,” she says.
