Here, There & Maybe Nowhere? APN rebrand

APN News & Media has officially changed its name to Here, There & Everywhere, in a move that it says reflects ‘the final shift away from traditional publishing’, as the company runs into strife with regulators over proposed mergers.

'Delighted': Ciaran Davis, CEO APN (now HT&E)

The rebrand was revealed at Thursday’s annual general meeting.

“When APN was established in 1988, the name stood for Australian Provincial Newspapers, directly pointing to the company’s foundations in print media,” CEO & managing director Ciaran Davis told the meeting.

“I’m delighted to introduce you to HT&E – Here, There & Everywhere. This is the first time a media company in Australia will bring together the critical away from home channels of radio, outdoor and digital – unlocking their power to better engage, influence and drive audience behaviour as we connect and interact with them, here, there and everywhere.”

Davis says the rebrand marks the end of the company’s association with print media; it sold its newspaper assets to NewsCorp last year.

“APN has diversified and totally transformed, with the transactions in 2016 marking the final shift away from traditional publishing and eliminating any exposure we had to having to close that business.

“Today, we are asking you to vote on the resolution to adopt a new name for the company, as we move APN from being a holder of media assets and re‐position it as a tier one media business, uniquely placed in the media landscape.”

APN delivered revenues of $225.3 million and EBITDA of $86.1 million in 2016, representing growth rates of 2 per cent and 4 per cent respectively.

It’s from an old Beatles song that ends:
“Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I’m always there
I will be there and everywhere
    Here, there and everywhere”

The key is ‘hoping I’m always be there…” because with a stupid name like that, hope is all they’ll have to trade on.

Whatever are they thinking??? (probably nothing much at all)

yes the name sounds a bit silly and a little confusing for non print people.
