Western Sydney commercial printer Saunders Print Group has closed its doors after 65 years in business and called in a liquidator.

A notice posted on the ASIC site on Tuesday says a meeting of company members last week resolved that the business should be wound up. Peter Krejci of BRI Ferrier Sydney has been named liquidator.

The company was founded by the late John Saunders as a small print shop in Paddington in 1953, before expanding into the then pioneering specialisation of high quality corporate business card production.

Current owner and managing director Colin Bungate, an employee for 20 years before taking over the business seven years ago, has been unavailable for comment.  It’s not yet clear exactly how many other staff members are affected. The company’s phone is not being answered.

In November last year, Bungate joined a small group of leading Australian printers in Bangkok for the launch of Fuji Xerox’s new high-speed, six-colour Iridesse Production Press.

Saunders produced a range of products including booklets, brochures, manuals, flyers, folders, business cards and envelopes for a list of clients that included Telstra, the Department of Defence and Qantas.

A creditors meeting will be announced shortly.
