The first commercial HP PageWide C500 digital corrugated packaging press is being installed in Austria. The C500 is HP’s most advanced press for digital corrugated applications, and uses food-safe, water-based inks.

The press will be installed this week at the Interwell plant of Smurfit Kappa, a leading global provider of paper-based packaging solutions. According to Saverio Mayer, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Europe, the C500 is an ideal fit for the company. “This new press is the perfect solution for our Interwell plant, and comes after a successful collaboration between Smurfit Kappa and HP,” he said. “We are both early adopters in our respective industries and constantly strive to provide pioneering, market-leading solutions for our customers.”

HP’s water-based inks used in the PageWide C500 can be used on both primary and secondary food packaging without the need for an additional barrier, and comply with stringent food safety regulations.
