One of the unsung successes of Australian graphic arts development, Serendipity Software is the brainchild of Peter Skarpetis, who along with distributor Bob Murphy and business manager Peter Carnell, has gained solid market share and established distributors in over 40 countries worldwide.
The innovative software company runs a tight ship, eschewing the flashier presence of its rivals, but its technology has an international reputation (It is represented in Australia by GSA and CPI.)
At this show it is showing version 3 of the software with a new interface. It is now able to process jobs across different computers. According to Pete Carnell, “ seeing five jobs imaging, three rendering and a couple printing all at the same time is very impressive.
Equally impressive is its new de-imposing, duplex printing capability.
As every magazine printer knows, publishers like to view a colour “dummy” of their book prior to contract proofing or plate-making. Once, it was dyelines and galleys, then imposition proofers printing both sides of a sheet. The problem was, these imposed signature sheets require folding and cutting manually to make a correct page-sequence “dummy.”
Blackmagic’s all-new de-impose/duplex feature pulls apart the signature file and prints out duplexed page pairs in logical order, on an inexpensive A3 laser printer or copier.
Serendipity’s Bob Murphy said, “It’s so easy now. Even mixed signatures can be accommodated, colour management is applied and front-to-back, registration is superb. What you get is a copy of the actual magazine in your hand prior to committing to expensive contract proofing, film or platemaking. “
Judging by the throng on Serendipity’s stand, demand will be huge for this unique feature.
