Print 21 tracks down the Australian printing connections.

Despite assurances from Adobe that the print link is only active in the US, print buyers in Australia are only a few clicks away from a local FedEx Kinko’s printer. Clicking the FedEx Kinko’s print button immediately takes anyone with Acrobat Reader to the company’s home page, where, unsurprisingly it has a non-US international section with Australia heading the list.

There are two Australian stores listed

  • 175 Liverpool Street, Sydney
  • 136 Exhibition Street, Melbourne

Adobe maintains this has nothing to do with its print option. According to Adobe’s Pacific Marketing Manager, Mark Cokes, in his response to Printing Industries ;

"I would like to reaffirm Adobe’s position that the process as it currently stands is not designed to support customers outside of North America. Indeed, selecting this option within the Reader places the customer in a US focused workflow that has been designed to restrict output to US locations only.

"Should a customer choose to step out of this structured process and engage the FedExKinko’s web site directly then the ability to print remotely can be sourced, however this is available via FedExKinko’s standard international workflow, and not through functionality accessed via Adobe Acrobat 8.1.”

The fact remains that Adobe is ushering print buyers to the FedEx Kinko’s web site through its Reader functionality.

Philip Andersen, CEO of Printing Industries is calling for Adobe to introduce a new international version of its software without the contentious button, irrespective of the company’s solution to the US problem. However for this to become effective it would need to be a compulsory update.
