The EFI Nozomi C18000 inkjet packaging press.

The first EFI Nozomi C18000 high-speed inkjet packaging printer to reach Australian shores will be installed at Orora’s plant in Oakleigh, Victoria. The announcement comes as the packaging giant posts its half-yearly results, which show a 14.8 percent profit increase after tax.

Nigel Garrard, managing director and CEO of Orora, said the company’s growth enabled it to invest in new and innovative solutions like the Nozomi. “Orora’s strong cash conversion, combined with the strength of its balance sheet, continues to provide the company with capacity to invest with discipline in innovation, capital projects and acquisition growth opportunities that deliver sustainable value creation for shareholders,” said Garrard. A second Nozomi is being installed at an Orora plant in North America.

Andy Yarrow, APAC director at EFI, said the manufacturer was very happy with the first sale of the C18000 in Australia. “Digital corrugated production is a significant new opportunity for our customers, and it has been clear in our conversations with Orora that they intend to take a proactive role in expanding the market. EFI is excited to be working with Orora in this groundbreaking effort both here and in the United States,” he said.

At EFI Connect last month, Eric Bacourt of Hinojosa Packaging Solutions, the first Nozomi customer in the world, sang the praises of the C18000. “We’ve found the Nozomi is a very efficient piece of equipment,” said Bacourt, who runs one of Spain’s biggest manufacturers of corrugated cardboard packaging. “The definition of the images it provides is also really the highest we’ve been able to find in terms of digital printing on corrugated board. It’s state-of-the-art,” he said.
