Bernie Robinson steps up as managing director of Currie Group

David Currie takes on the role of Executive Chairman but declares that for customers it will be business as usual.

The changes come as part of a significant management restructure within the largest privately owned graphic supply company in Australia.

Phillip Rennell is the sales and marketing director while Andrew Fitzpatrick has been appointed group finance director and company secretary. Andrew Matthews, in addition to his existing national consumables management role, will take on strategic account management and development. Paul Thompson has recently been appointed state manager for NSW/ACT.

David Currie (right) confirmed he will be stepping back a little to spend more time with his family. "Part of my role is to make sure we have a good management structure in place that does not depend on any one individual," he said. "I’ll still be involved as Executive Chairman and still going into the office. It gives Bernie and the others the authority they need to get things done, but as far as ciustomers are concerned, it will be business as usual."

With a 12-year history working at the Currie Group, Robinson (pictured below) was previously sales manager and a director at the company. He looks forward to taking on the role of MD. “I feel very excited,” he said. “It’s quite a privilege to have the role in a family business. For David to entrust that into my hands is quite an honour.”

Robinson was also responsible for introducing David Currie to AM International, where he worked prior to the Currie Group.The allignment of the two businesses proved a significant move for the supply industry.

Robinson said that he could not imagine working anywhere else. “What I like best about the Currie Group is that we move on decisions very quickly,” he said. “We are growing the business and have changed in accordance with the industry.”

The company has transformed itself from being an offset-centric suplier to being a major digital conduit, representing HP Indigo in the region. It success in penetrating the market with the diital presses has seen HP Indigo as the largest number of high-end digital presses in the industry.

Other suppliers such as Shinohara offset, Horizon finishing and Agfa plates ensure the Currie Group is a complete suplier to the graphic arts.
