Mar 02-Aug 06 – Production Manager – Final Repro Ltd

General overseer for 25 staff producing 14 monthly magazines

Production responsibilities included pre-flighting incoming documents, correcting resolution of digital images, booking in prints or transparencies for scanning. Made up pages in InDesign and Quark for outputting to Asura, a high-end PDF creator, producing over 100 Hi-resolution pdf’s per day. Also responsible for three Agfa Sherpa proofing systems with monthly maintenance on ICC colour profiles using EFI colorproof.

Maintained an online digital asset management system for clients to view and correct pdfs, also placed assets that could be accessed and downloaded by customers, throughout the UK and Europe.

Verified and checked pdfs for printing with Editorial staff and designers, before passing the pdf files and proofs to press, sometimes assisting customers at print process, from 72pp web offset presses or 5-colour sheet fed presses, advising on colour balance and quality of print.

Nominated at UK’s premier national Print Week Awards 2005 for ‘Creative Repro Company of the Year’ after submitting four samples of work, explaining the production process in full.

Pre-press training courses include Creo Preps, transition from Quark to InDesign, and Acrobat Professional.

Sept 1998-Mar 02 – Studio Manager – Europress Litho Ltd

Production based Mac-operator for output of imposed plates, using a screen B2 CTP platesetter with online plate processing, using inposition software with Quark Xpress to produce plates for two Komori five-colour Lithrone presses, this included planning and scheduling work for print..

Produced large format graphics for Exhibitions, both mounted and laminated graphics, from design, scanning and outputting to various paper stocks.

Implemented change over from film output to plate output, from installing and running an ECRM B2 Imagesetter, with imposed film, and then using the traditional method of planning and platemaking.

Feb 1992-Sept 1998 – Works Manager – PPS Print Ltd

General running and scheduling of small print shop, for one and two colour work for in-house production for print runs up to 10,000 copies.

Sales experience was gained from visiting clients and running through sales briefs for both design and print, advising on paper stocks and weights, collecting discs and delivering proofs for customer approval.
