Current Images delivers wide-format digital print

HP Indigo agent has taken on board an increased range of HP products to become a complete digital imaging supplier.
Current Images, a member of the Currie Group , now adds the HP Designjet printers to its array of high-end digital presses.

“It’s a complementary range of products that fits in very well with our digital colour printing skill base,” said Phillip Rennell, HP Business Manager, Current Images. “ Now that we are working s closely with HP it makes sense to expand our range to include wide format in addition the digital press lines. It allows us to offer a complete range of digital colour printers to all our customers who may also want small and large format proofing.”

Current Images is delivering both the Designjet 5500 and the 5500ps (the 42 and 60 inch models) targeting printers who want to move into the rapidly growing wide format production market. The new HP Designjet 5500 series printers combine high productivity, uncompromising image quality and intelligent printing solutions that simplify workflow and allow unattended printer operation.
The HP Designjet 5500 comes with key productivity enhancements that are designed to meet high volume, professional quality commercial large-format printing needs. The printers are suitable for print service providers, GIS professionals and graphic designers or other commercial large-format print users.
The HP Designjet 5500 delivers superb image quality

  • excellent photo quality for all large-format prints with a resolution of up to 1200 x 600 dpi on glossy media
  • six-ink, 1200 dpi writing system and HP Colour Layering Technology for achieving a wide colour gamut, continuous tones, smooth transition between colours.

It produces consistent and accurate colours allowing for pantone colour matching for spots and process colours as well as automatic closed-loop calibration to ensure colour consistency throughout the entire job. The series utilises the HP intelligent printing frameworl for better workflow including:

  • new web-file submitter uses driverless printing workflow that allows easy connectivity in multi-platform environments,
  • HP Designjet WebAccess to manage the printer by using remote access to configure print alerts, job management, printer status, ink and media usage

The Designjet series has a modular ink system incorporating:
two interchangeable ink sets – dye based inks for photo image quality and pigment based UV inks for enhanced lightfastness

  • six independently replaceable ink cartridges reduces consumable costs as users only replace the ink colour they need
  • smart chips to track low ink levels and worn printheads

Flexible RIP options are a notable feature of the series. The HP Designjet 5500ps comes with an Adobe PDF 1.3 and Adobe PostScript 3 built-in RIP. The HP Designjet 5500 is RIP-ready for use with a range of external RIPs and GIS applications
