Epson’s glow-in-the-dark pit stop for Mercedes-AMG Petronas

Epson has created what’s believed to be the first glow-in-the-dark pit stop for this weekend’s Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Luminous material printed by the Epson SureColour SC-S Series printer has transformed the Mercedes-AMG Petronas racecar for the Marina Bay night race, complete with glowing overalls and equipment for the team.

General manager of brand and communications at Epson Ian Cameron said the company’s partnership with the motorsport team has always had a focus on pursuing innovation and performance in their respective industries.

“The glow-in-the-dark pit stop is both pioneering and exciting,” said Cameron.

“It perfectly demonstrates how adaptable and practical our products are in the most unusual and striking of environments. We are delighted with the results.”

The luminous effect was enhanced by the Epson’s flagship EB-L25000U, a 3LCD laser projector with 25,000 lumens plus 4K Enhancement, designed for dynamic and high-impact production.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport marketing operations director Victoria Vowles said it has been an exciting process working alongside Epson in bringing a new experience for fans and the race.

“Epson’s use of advanced technology to deliver performance is perfectly aligned to what we strive to achieve in Formula 1,” she said.

“Pit stops are a well established feature of the Formula 1 experience, so being able to work with Epson and their pioneering products to bring a fresh perspective to this process has been highly exciting.”

The Singapore Grand Prix will take place this weekend, 15-17 September, featuring three-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton as one of the drivers behind the wheel for Mercedes-AMG Petronas.
