Three of CyraChrome’s product offerings were feted with accolades at this year’s GATF (Graphic Arts Technical Foundation) InterTech technology Awards. Out of thirteen products chosen, the three are:

  • CGS ColorTuner version 5.0 proofing Rip
  • Epson 7600 and 9600 inkjet printers
  • RealTime Proof Express online proofing system

The GATF awards are a great endorsement of the expanding CyraChrome product range. The synergy between ColorTuner 5.0 and the Epson large format printers result in a complete contract proofing system at a fraction of the price of so-called ‘high-end’ proofers.

ORIS ColorTuner 5.0 receives 2003 GATF InterTech Technology Award

GATF announced that ORIS ColorTuner 5.0 has been given a 2003 InterTech Technology Award for “excellence in innovative technology for the graphic communications industry”. Introduced last year, the new version of CGS’ highly-regarded inkjet proofing system has added functionality for both prepress and printing companies, as well as remote proofing capabilities for publishers, advertisers and other print buyers.

“We are delighted to be recognized as a breakthrough technology for the graphic arts industry,” said CGS US President Trevor Haworth. “ORIS technology provides fast, reliable and affordable contract proof quality for our customers. Our latest version goes even further to ensure the business success of graphic arts companies.”

Colour Tuner 5.0’s new features include independent handling of spot colours, automatic device calibration (AutoCal) and automatic colour matching. The system also includes unique selective colour correction, for precise contract proofing on inkjet devices from Canon, Epson and others. Colour Tuner was the first system of its type to achieve SWOP certification.

The InterTech award is given to products in prepress, press and finishing categories. A panel of independent judges reviewed forty submissions before selecting ColorTuner 5.0 as one of the award recipients. According to one of the judges, the ORIS technology “clearly supports using colour inkjet for contract proofs.”

CGS Publishing Technologies International GmbH, Hainburg, Germany, established in 1985, develops productivity and colour management systems for the professional graphics arts market. Headquartered near Frankfurt, CGS has operations in the U.S. and Canada and sales partners in all major countries including CyraChrome in Australia. Check out the CGS web site

EPSON Stylus Pro 7600 and 9600 large format printers receives 2003 GATF InterTech Technology Award

Since CyraChrome pioneered the use of Epson large format piezo printers as contract proofers in 1999, over 400 have been installed for proofing with many more sold as display graphics printers. The 7600 (610mm wide) and 9600 (1118mm wide) models were introduced last year and have proved even more successful than their predecessors the 7000 and 9000.

The advances are many – a new seven-colour UltraChrome inkset ensures the widest possible gamut with excellent rendition of mid-tones by virtue of the ‘dual black’ innovation. UltraChrome inks are hybrid dye/pigment based and very stable. Framed prints under glass with no direct UV light exposure will last up to 80 years before noticeable fading occurs (source: Wilhelm Research Institute). With resolutions selectable between 720dpi, 1440dpi and 2880dpi, there are few proofing jobs that cannot be output on Epson 7600 or 9600 machines.

The addition of Firewire and USB2 interfaces further speeds up file processing. Coupled with the CGS ORIS ColorTuner 5.0 proofing software, Epson printers have revolutionized digital proofing in Australia as well as the USA.

RealTime Proof Express receives 2003 GATF InterTech Technology Award

Online proofing is beginning to take off in Australia but already in the USA it is major force in building relationships between stakeholders in print and packaging jobs. RealTime Proof Express is the latest addition to the RealTime stable and achieves a happy compromise between local, customer-controlled job handling and the power of servers. The 2003 GATF InterTech Award marks a first for online proofing and there is none more deserving than RealTime Proof Express.
