Fairfax plays the sheetfed field in Australia while bedding down with Geon in New Zealand.

After a review of its business, Fairfax in New Zealand decided to outsource its sheetfed printing to Geon, which also purchased commercial printing operations comprising of Herald Print, Stylex Print, Taranaki Print and Graphics and Taupo Times Commercial Print.

"Geon welcomes Fairfax New Zealand’s recent announcement," said new CEO, Graham Morgan. "This is a significant opportunity for our business.  Our commitment to creating greater value in our client’s visual communications process is at the heart of our business.  And one of the reasons, we feel, that our bid has been accepted by Fairfax New Zealand."

A spokesperson from Geon was unable to comment on any future directions or developments with Fairfax in Australia. However, a spokesman from Fairfax Australia denied that a similar situation would take place here.

Roger Shepherd, Fairfax Media’s group head of publishing said that the company chose Geon for its strong reputation. "We are delighted to be working with Geon who have proven expertise in this area and are well positioned to take the business forward," he said.

"It will be very much business as usual for customers, but at the same time, Geon will be exploring opportunities to add value to the services currently provided to them."
