The Prinect Integration System and the Prinect Pressroom Manager tie the different parts of the JDF-based work system together. Operating throughout the company’s flagship exhibition stand at IPEX 2006, the integrated printshop was demonstrated as the paradigm of manufacturing print.

The system means that managers can have a real time understanding of the production and cost parameters of every job passing through the shop. “This two-way exchange of data throughout the entire workflow via JDF leads to full cost control,” said Jürgen Rautert, management board member for engineering and manufacturing at Heidelberg said at the launch. “This takes process integration to new levels.”

The philosophy behind the system is not only to have full control over the pressroom via Pressroom Manager but also to integrate that data into a system that allows the entire printshop to be automated and transparent. As always an electronic job ticket is the key, containing ID, the materials and the method of production. Each process of a particular job is mapped in a process network and transferred automatically to the various production sectors via intelligent JDF routing. The centrally managed master data enables unique assignment of the customer and material data.

Feedback from the various production sectors goes to the central JDF ticket, where the information is made available to the management information system for actual production and material-based costing.

On the shopfloor the production status is also displayed via the Prinect Cockpit, which is part of the Pressroom Manager. This program basically provides the same level of control, automaton and transparency as is available to the production office. The Prinect Integration System is a modular style product with all its components able to be installed separately as it builds towards the implementation of overall sophisticated production integration.

At this show the reality of automated manufacturing print became a reality. It will provide the future of the industry.
