Bernhard Schreier, CEO of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, claims the new financial year is off to a good start across all areas. “The global increase in demand for print products had a positive effect on our performance. The emerging markets in particular continue to show robust growth, currently accounting for more than 40 percent of incoming orders.”

Sales generated by the Heidelberg Group between April 1st and June 30th, at Euro 660 million, (AUD$1,053 million) were up ten percent from the previous year’s figure. Incoming orders also climbed significantly, rising to Euro 886 million (AUD 1,413 million) from the previous quarter’s figure of Euro 780 million.

Breaking the results down to specific divisions within the company, sales in offset printing equipment rose to Euro 567 million, up from last year’s figure of Euro 513 million. In the postpress division, sales of finishing equipment rose to Euro 80 million, jumping from last year’s figure of Euro 70 million. All regions experienced a boost in sales in comparison to this time last year, bar for Eastern Europe which experienced a drop of eight million Euro.

Company CFO Dr. Herbert Meyer claims the results demonstrate that recent measures have proved successful in improving Heidelberg’s profitability. “Nonetheless, exchange rate movements and developments in raw material and energy prices still present a risk.”

Heidelberg’s outlook for the 2005/2006 financial year remains unchanged, with the company expecting a moderate growth in sales and for the results of the previous year to be surpassed.
