Heidelberg proves itself to be a master of speed with its latest drupa releases.

The ultimate highlight for Heidelberg at drupa 2008 is its two new large-format presses, the Speedmaster XL 145 and Speedmaster XL 162. "Size-wise, these presses are the next step in out new stage of development and drupa will be the first time we showcase our large format presses," said CEO, Bernhard Schreier.

Both the XL 145 and 162 have been designed primarily for use in the print packaging and industrial publishing sectors as a way of complementing the upper end of Heidelberg’s sheetfed offset portfolio.

Other additions to the Speedmaster family include the Speedmaster XL 75 with a larger sheet format, and the new Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster SM 74 series.

Dr Jurgen Rautert said that: "It would not be Heidelberg at drupa if there was nothing new in perfecting." To keep with tradition, it will be introducing the Speedmaster XL 105 with perfecting device.

Forty per cent of Heidelberg’s floor space at drupa will be devoted to the packaging sector, which means the XL 145 and 162 presses will be right at home.  If packaging is to take precedence then so too will sustainable practices. Following Heidelberg’s call for printers to reduce the amount of alcohol in their presses, the company will now lead by example.

"At drupa, we will have alcohol-free printing and FSC certification to show that environmental services are not just lip service," Rautert said.

Other innovations and releases include a number of integration solutions, such as the Prinect Press Centre, Prinect Packaging Workflow and Prinect Axis Control, which are all expected to take Heidelberg’s workflow portfolio to the next level.

A new range of platesetters from the Suprasetter series will also be on show for the first time at drupa 2008, with Heidelberg now expanding its portfolio to include the large-format Suprasetter 145, 162 and 190.

In the postpress sector, the Stahlfolder KH 82 with automatic cross-fol unit will make its debut. The Eurobind 4000 perfect binder, Diana X 115 folder gluer and Dymatrix 145 CSB die-cutter will also be displayed, along with the Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB die-cutter and the CS and CSF Variamatrix series, equipped with new features.
