Glenn Plummer, general manager of marketing at HAN, says the move is in line with the company’s increased focus on consumables for the region.

“Over the past couple of years we have added new products to the consumables range, particularly with regard to the press room environment,” says Plummer.

“Adding inks to our consumables offer is a natural extension and further extends our ability to meet our customers requirements across the gamut of print production.”

The decision to align with Toyo Ink Australia was made following extensive testing. This was conducted at Heidelberg’s Sydney showroom, and independently by the National Printing Laboratory at Monash University, Melbourne, where the inks were put through various scientific tests.

“We undertook a very thorough process to ensure the quality of the product,” says Plummer. “Quality and the ability to service the local market were deciding factors in our decision to partner with Toyo Ink.”

“The fact that Toyo is a local manufacturer, and also has access to imported specialist inks from Japan, further enhances the relationship.”

Plummer claims that the addition of inks to the Superdot range closes the loop for Heidelberg across Australia and New Zealand, providing its customers with a total solutions package.

“We are responding to the changing needs of our customers many of whom are rationalising the number of suppliers they deal with,” says Plummer.

“The addition of inks to our range increases our capabilities and reinforces our ability to deliver a total performance package.”

Alan Naylor, general manager of the print systems division at Toyo Ink Australia, says the alliance with Heidelberg will offer his company a number of strategic opportunities.

“It is a core strategy of Toyo Ink Australia to establish distribution channels that will compliment our direct supply of product to our customers and the supply of Toyo inks and consumables through our distributors,” says Naylor.

“I am delighted at the confidence Heidelberg has shown in Toyo Ink and in our products. We are obviously pleased with this long term agreement with Heidelberg and look forward to growth in their ink product line and potential new collaborations in the future,” says Naylor.

The Superdot ink range will be available in Australia from the beginning of June, with New Zealand following within three months.
