HP saw a growth in the USA of over 10 billion annual impressions printed on HP Indigo; more than 1 billion impressions printed within the month of November and an overall growth of 40 per cent in HP’s impressions. Industry analyst, InfoTrends, expects HP’s digital revenue will grow from US$3.5 billion in 2006 to $13.5 billion in 2010.

HP also reported an increase in print runs for niche areas such as books-on-demand, used by customers like Amazon; photo merchandise products including personal calendars, cards and photo books and labels and packaging.

America isn’t the only country experiencing this run of good luck, according to Phillip Rennell, digital marketing manager of Currie Group. “This is a worldwide trend,” he said. “Australia reflects the same.”

Alan Bar-Shay, vice president and general manager of Indigo Division, HP said that the variety of digital products was a contributing factor to HP’s increasing digital print runs. “Our customers are discovering that the real profit opportunity in digital comes from offering the best quality,” he said. “This is especially apparent in direct mail and marketing collateral markets as well as the rapidly growing nice markets such as books-on-demand, photo merchandise and label printing.”
