The current outbreak of industrial trouble is a disturbing new aspect for the printing industry. After many years of sensible discussions and compromises, management and unions appear to be on a collision course over what are not very large differences. We’ve just seen the debilitating Australian Paper strike come to an unsatisfactory conclusion and now we’ve got Note Printing Australia squaring off against its workers. Across the Tasman Blue Star is embroiled with overtime bans in its four different sites.

There’s more than a whiff of ideology to these disputes, either from ambitious union representatives or neocon-influenced management. Come on fellas, grow up!
