Modern printing technology is getting ever more sophisticated, able to print at high quality on more and more substrates. That’s good news. Unfortunately, that also means currency forgers can print counterfeit bills that are almost indistinguishable from the real thing. That’s bad news.

Hence, the RBA’s decision to overhaul Australia’s bank notes. The $5 and the $10 are done, which means the next one to get an upgrade will be the $50 note, the most-counterfeited denomination in Australia. Here’s hoping the criminals take a long time to catch up with its new high-tech security features.
