What readers had to say about last week’s news.

Re: University of NSW print contract goes up for grabs

I was with St George bank in circa 1996 when it happened to our Production Services and print department and 12 staff.

I spent 3 months collating documentation at the Board of Directors request and was easily able to show savings galore by keeping the work in-house. However, the Powers that be had already set the agenda and the fruitless exercise was just ‘filed’ because it wasn’t what they wanted to read.

As it turned out I was the only staff member employed by the tender winner, Show-Ads, but who were then ousted after their 3 year contract concluded. They were undercut at the next tender process by McMillan Print who could not (a) do the job they said they could and (b) caused such problems for the bank in so many areas, that the bank never really recovered.

I was employed by McMillan but left after 3 months when I realized they were not the capable establishment they portrayed.

The bank currently uses yet another print production company for their print material.

Good luck anyway,

C Parker.

Ho ho ho, it’s off to business school you go!

May I suggest a little research before you start – perhaps reading Richard Vine’s White Paper and then perhaps you enroll with a reputable higher education facility; the type that actually manager their own business units successfully.

Name withheld.
