Brett Chenoweth steps up as new chief executive officer of APN News and Media while John Harvey gets ready to move in as independent non-executive director.

41-year-old Chenoweth (pictured) will take over on 1 January 2011 when current CEO, Brendan Hopkins, retires. Chenoweth is currently employed as managing director of merchant bank, The Silverfern Group.

His remuneration consists of a base salary of $1.5 million per annum, plus short and long-term incentives. Hopkins was listed in the AFR’s list of top 40 earners within the media and entertainment industries this week, with a reported salary of $2,505,143.

Chenoweth believes that APN has “a foundation of great content” and said that the company would be “working to ensure marketers are deriving maximum value from the audiences who enjoy that content.”

According to APN’s chairman, Gavin O’Reilly, Chenoweth has the experience in growing content-based businesses to provide APN’s audiences with “an expanded range of content and services.”

“He will also be focused on deploying technology enablers that drive imported returns for marketers eager to reach APN’s audiences on all platforms.”

Another new fact to join the company on 1 January is John Harvey has been appointed independent non-executive director. Independent directors, Donal Buggy and Cameron O’Reilly will retire at the end of the year.

“These changes now ensure that APN has a smaller board comprising a majority of independent non-executive directors with a strong blend of media and other business experience to support Brett’s strategy for APN in a constantly evolving media environment,” Gavin O’Reilly added.
