The position was previously filled by PMP Limited CEO David Kirk, who is relinquishing the title so he can focus his attention on the overall direction of the company. Commencing his new job from October 3, Shield is moving over from Amcor where he was the group general manager of its paper and board division.

Kirk claims his previous responsibilities as both CEO and managing director of the print division did not make for a satisfactory arrangement for extracting maximum performance from PMP’s biggest business unit.

“I have been unable to provide the level of focus required, given my other accountabilities,” Kirk says. “Therefore the appointment of Malcolm to this role is an important milestone in taking the performance of PMP to a new level.”

Shield has a significant background in the Australian paper industry, having worked within a variety of positions within Smorgon’s paper division and fulfilling a number of engineering and manufacturing roles at Australian Paper.

Kirk claims this experience will bring the necessary know-how required for the role. “The depth and breadth of experience that Malcolm brings to PMP will add significant value to the leadership, not only of Print, but of the group as a whole.”
