New Zealand print consolidation continues

Coming soon after PPG’s July merger of Wellington firms Brigden & Giles Print and Albion King and McLay, to form Albion Graphics, the latest takeover accelerates a defining industry trend. It brings to more than a dozen the number of firms acquired by PPG in its bid to become one of the region’s largest sheetfed printer.

Rush Print will be moved to the PPG-owned Brebner Print facility at Onekawa, where previous owner, Mark Harvey will stay on to assist in customer transition.

The continuing consolidation of the industry appears to have as much to do with the desire of large companies to bolster their presence in all regions, as the underlying economics of the market. Mid-size printing companies prepared to invest in the latest technology are proving remarkably resilient and competitive in the face of large competitors as the industry moves towards niche production.
