If the art of the compromise is arriving at a solution nobody is entirely happy with, the Fair Work Commission should win an Archibald Prize for its decision to increase the minimum wage by double what employers wanted but only half what unions wanted. The ACTU says workers need more to live on, while the PIAA says the rise could be tough on small business – we’ll have to wait and see how it all shakes out.
