After six years, Akira Hayakawa has returned to Japan resulting the first non-Japanese chief in Dainippon Screen’s 25-year history here. Scott has stepped up from national sales manager to managing director following a twelve-year career with the company both in Australia and the US.

Entrusted with leading Screen’s business in Australia and New Zealand, Scott (pictured) is grateful for the experience handed down from the departing MD. Hayakawa will continue his association with the ANZ market by remaining as a director of the local subsidiary and making occasional visits. However, his new role in Kyoto will include Screen Europe and it is anticipated that Screen Australia will eventually become more autonomous.

“The team we have is very stable, so we know each other well and I look forward to, and am confident in, continued success for Screen in my new role.

“I am sure I speak for all Screen Australia staff members in expressing my thanks to Akira Hayakawa, who has steered us through very challenging times, and wish him and his family all the very best when they return to Kyoto, world headquarters of Dainippon Screen,” said Scott.

Akira-san’s farewell was marked last week by a private luncheon attended by local staff. He is pictured here together with his wife and the team. Following completion of studies, his family will join him in Kyoto.
