  • DES sharpens focus on green credentials

Fresh from gaining the Seiko SII ColorPainter M-64 wide format printer agency, DES is burnishing its environmental commitment with a ‘green’ refresh across its entire product portfolio.

“In this day and age, very customer is looking for the best environmental outcome and we, as a supplier, are focused on delivering the most sustainable, cost-effective solutions to meet that requirement,” said Ian Clare, Managing Director. “DES intends to be known as one of the country’s leaders in the supply of ecologically sustainable products.”

“Operating in a sustainable manner makes good business sense,” Ian Clare (pictured).

The message is backed up by Russell Cavenagh, Sales Director of DES, who points to the acceptance of Seiko Instruments’ SX ink into the Nordic Ecolabel product list. “The confirmation that the eco solvent SX ink meets the highest environmental standards, in addition to its wide colour gamut and outdoor durability, is a testament to the SI market leading technology.

“It is an example of how DES is seeking to deliver only the best envirnmental products to the industry.”
The SX ink, which is used in the SII ColorPainter M-64s, was approved as meeting the chemical requirements of Nordic Ecolabel for printing companies. The Nordic Ecolabel, also known as Nordic Swan, is a comprehensive Scandinavian Ecolabel that, for more than 25 years, sets the highest environmental standards for products and services.

The attainment of the Nordic Ecolabel requires an assessment of the ecological footprint of each product. Accordingly, the eco solvent SX ink from Seiko Instruments, by meeting the stringent Nordic Ecolabel criteria has been shown to be ecologically sustainable.

“It shows that the that eco solvent SX ink not only meets the highest environmental standards, but is also recognised for its wide colour gamut and outdoor durability. The listing is a testament to the SI market leading technology.

  • DES cements Finchers partnership with merger

DES is cementing its long-running partner with Western Australian graphic arts supplier with a merger of the two companies.

Finchers, which is a long-established supplier to the graphic arts and sign & display market in Malaga, has acted as DES’ main WA agent for years.

Now, DES, which maintains a broad distribution footprint in Australia’s eastern states, hopes the amalgamation of the two suppliers will create the most comprehensive portfolio of digital imaging products, consumables and services in the Western Australian market.

The move comes only months after DES took on former Anitech WA state manager, Len Page, to help oversee its expansion in the state’s market. Page has now been named as the WA state manager for the new business that will arise from the merger, and he will be supported by the existing Finchers staff members in his new role.

“I would like to extend a warm welcome to all Finchers customers and staff and look forward to the start of an exciting new phase in the development of our business,” said Ian Clare (pictured), DES managing director. “As leading suppliers of integrated digital imaging solutions, our two companies share many common goals such as a belief in innovative technology, a commitment to customer support and the development of highly trained product specialists.

“The pace of change in today’s digital environment demands that suppliers continue to evolve and improve their product offerings to meet customers’ needs. This is a goal we both share passionately,” he said.

For customers of both companies, DES says it will be ‘business as usual’. The new business will continue to support and maintain all products currently offered by Finchers and DES.

Looking to the future, Ian Clare says that the merger is not just an end in itself but rather a platform from which to explore new business opportunities.

  • DES goes West

DES is going West, opening a new branch in Western Australia and employing Perth local, Len Page, to manage the branch and drive the business. Between now and PacPrint13, Page will introduce Perth to the service and sales support DES is known for nationally.

“You need to grow with your customers and many of our national customers now have operations  in Perth,” says Ian Clare, managing director of DES. “Len Page, with 18 years’ experience in the offset print industry and six years with Anitech in the Graphics and Sign Industry is the perfect fit for DES and our customer base.”

Page’s enthusiasm for the new role mirrors Clare’s. Page (pictured) says, “I’m excited to join a company that is interested in supporting the Western Australia print industry, both offset and digital, by expanding across Australia and providing high quality service, products and support.

“My role will be made so much easier, and I am really looking forward to establishing the DES name in Perth and being known for having the best support staff in Western Australia,” he says.

DES is known for its market-leading product portfolio, which includes UV wide and super wide printers from EFI VUTEk, narrow web UV presses from EFI Jetrion as well as solvent and aqueous printers from Canon, Epson, Ricoh and Roland plus a broad portfolio of consumable products from MACtac, Hahnemuhle, Chromajet and Eclipse.
