Visual Impact Sydney will have an education focus for its return to Darling Harbour in October, says Peter Harper, general manager of Visual Connections.

The show will move into the newly rebuilt International Convention Centre after four years at Sydney Showground in Olympic Park. Peter Harper says interest has so far been slow, but he anticipates it picking up as October approaches. “It’s about what we expected – it’s always tough in a PacPrint year to sell a second show. People are still following up leads from PacPrint, so hopefully when they’re all cashed up they’ll come on board,” he said, adding that the ICC is a larger space than in previous years.

Education will be front and centre at the exhibition, with at least ten hands-on workshops for students and guests. “In the mornings we intend to showcase our industry to school students, and in the afternoon the workshops are for attendees. These are interactive workshops – not seminars. They’ll cover things like car wrapping, sublimation, colour management, laser technology, LED, traditional sign skills and airbrushing. There are a couple more coming through – they’re just putting them all together at this stage,” he said.

Registration will open next week, with organisers aiming for Monday. “It’s our first time back at Darling Harbour, so we’re expecting good turnout – both our attendees and our exhibitors voted 75-25 to go back to Darling Harbour and the new International Convention Centre, so hopefully we’ll get the crowds we’re after. It should be a great show,” Harper said.

Visual Impact Sydney 2017 will be held from October 11-13.
