The print community is reeling, as it mourns the passing of industry titan Geoff Selig, executive chairman of IVE, who has died while on holiday in Europe.

Industry reeling: Geoff Selig has passed away

He passed away following unforeseen complications arising from an accident in Barcelona.

Selig played a major role in the Australian print industry over the past 40 years, culminating in the creation of IVE, its launch onto the ASX in December 2015, and its successful growth into the country’s premier marketing and communications business, and the nation’s biggest print operation.

The board, management and whole IVE family have expressed deepest condolences to his family following the tragic event.

Gavin Bell, the company’s lead independent director, and who has bene on the board since the float, has been appointed interim chair of the IVE board.

Geoff Selig, together with his brother Paul, also a director of IVE, was a grandson of Oscar Selig. Oscar Selig began what eventually became IVE more than a century ago, in 1921. The company began printing in the 1960s. Geoff Selig has been at the helm since the last century.

Kellie Northwood, CEO of the Visual Media Association said, “The passing of Geoff Selig is deeply saddening news to hear of this morning, and one that will be felt by many across the industry. Geoff was an influential and inspirational leader, one I had great privilege in working with across industry projects over the years, and who was truly passionate about our industry.

"The VMA Board, members and industry share our sincere condolences and thoughts to Geoff’s family, and to the entire IVE Group during this difficult chapter."
