Momento Pro, the multi-award winning, pioneering, Sydney-based photobook printing company, has gone into voluntary liquidation, some 20 years after it was founded.

Established in 2004, Momento was the first personalised photobook company in Australia and New Zealand, with the company highly regarded for its photobooks and publishing expertise. It had two arms - Momento and Momento Pro.

Its loss is a significant blow to the local industry. Printing arm Momento Pro won dozens of awards in Australia, and dozens more around the world, including at the US Bennys. It used HP Indigo and Epson wide format to print, with its binding winning as many awards as its print.

Director Geoff Hunt said, "It was with a heavy heart that, after 20 years of printing photos and forming friendships in the ANZ photo community, we closed our doors. Despite every effort to keep the business alive, economic conditions of the last few years sealed our fate.

“We sincerely appreciate the support you showed us along the way, and loved helping you preserve photo memories.

“While we will no longer be around, our books and albums will stand the test of time, and this gives us much comfort. Our parting wish is that you continue to print photos, and to support local and small businesses wherever you can.

“We also wish you much health and happiness, at work and play. A heartfelt farewell from Libby, Geoff, James, and the whole Momento team.

At the Bennys in 2019, the company won the graphic arts industry’s highest honour - considered the Academy Awards of the print world - the Premier Print Awards James H Mayes Jr Memorial ‘Best of Show’ prize, for a collector’s edition art book, Middlehurst | Middle Earth, by Australian landscape photographer Peter Eastway.

Beyond this, the company's achievements were substantial - it co-founded the first photobook festivals in Australia and New Zealand, contributed to the preservation of 52 antipodean photo books in the UK's Tate Gallery, supported the launch of hundreds of self-published books, and established programmes to assist students and camera club members.

According to the Facebook post, clients with current orders and outstanding business with Momento should contact the liquidator, PKF, directly.
