In the latest episode of print's podcast It's Been A Big Month in Print, industry insiders Wayne Robinson and Lindy Hughson analyse, assess, and interpret the major news, trends, issues and developments from October.

We start off by reviewing the push for diversification among print businesses, highlighted with IVE's purchase of Jacpak to produce folding cartons, Coleman's entry into label printing with an HP Indigo 6K, and Onpack’s investment in an Hinterkopf for direct-to-can printing.

We also discuss succession, in the light of Southern Impact passing of the leadership baton, as Heath Nankervis steps up to succeed Rod Dawson.

We assess the dangers of putting most of your eggs into one basket – with PoP outfit Presfast saying it is entering voluntary administration due to losing its major client, and we review the potential reprieve for wine labels, with the likelihood of China’s tariffs on Australian wine soon to be lifted.

The discussion also reflects on The Voice referendum, and its boost for the print industry. The drive to sustainability is explored, with the introduction of carbon neutral banners by SCG and Go, and with the launch of super large eco-friendly banners from Ooh! Media.

We explore major print franchise group Kwik Kopy’s plans for growth, partly driven by wide format printing, and we wrap up by commenting on the PVCA officially changing its name to the Visual Media Association (VMA).
