ALL OVER FOR PRINT DUO
After a remarkable two years, during which surprisingly few print businesses troubled the liquidating fraternity, the tally is starting to rise once again.
Among the companies being wound up this month are real estate printer IC Print & Design, from NSW, and ACT-based The Printing Factory Group, both now in liquidation.
The Covid years saw far fewer print businesses than usual hit trouble, although there were some exceptions to the rule, most notably Ovato, which racked up huge losses, eventually pulling the pin in July after selling off everything it could. Bambra Press hit the skids early in Covid, but came back in slimmed down form, and a few wide format printers took a tumble as the sector was smashed.
Many printshops took advantage of the government support during Covid, with the JobKeeper allowance widley used, as well as rent and tenancy suppport.
There have been, and continue, to be mergers a’plenty though, as print business owners seek to optimise their operations, and a move to using trade printing, as printshop owners look to new business models.
