The country’s biggest trade print operation, CMYKhub, has now achieved sustainable green print level 1 (SGP L1) certification for all its print production sites.

Visual Media Association CEO Kelly Northwood presented CMYKhub with certificates for its QLD and WA manufacturing centres at the Visual Impact trade show, just two months after its NSW and VIC operations achieved the grade.

The company says it is now pushing forward to achieve Levels 2 and 3 “fairly quickly”.

Glenn Francis, national communications manager at CMYKhub said, “For us this is all about aligning with our customers who have been increasingly requesting our environmental accreditations for pitches or tenders.

“When our partners became certified with SGP it made complete sense for us to as well, so that chain of custody isn’t broken when they outsource a job to us. We want our customers to know that sending an order to CMYKhub can be done so in good conscience.

“Whilst it’s probably hard to measure a return on investment in terms of sales, you have to consider what it could cost by not being part of SGP. With increased government, social and corporate scrutiny, we need to consider lost opportunities for not having sustainable practices in place.

Talking about the process to achieve accreditation, Francis said, “Thank you to Kellie Northwood for your support in getting us started on this journey. We must thank London Mills who made this SGP project very easy for us and Michael Ellis our HSEQ Manager who did all the leg-work at our end. I’ve got to say how thankful I am to Michael for making this a priority in our business.

“Something Michael has successfully measured return on from the auditing process is our landfill expenditure. We have been able to half our landfill invoices nationwide.”

CMYKhub is now encouraging all print businesses to look at SGP, Francis said, “If anyone is thinking about undertaking the process, I certainly recommend having a chat to Kelly or London. It’s really not a daunting process and L1 is really just about capturing and formatting your waste, water, power and emissions data.

“I would encourage printers of all sizes to look into SGP. Our industry will be stronger if we provide a united front and demonstrate that print is the solution sustainable choice for marketing, branding and communications.”
