PLANET ARK TONERS STILL BEING RECYCLED

Comments Comments

Not-for-profit recycling aggregator Planet Ark has retracted its earlier statement that it was storing used printer toner cartridges, now saying that it is recycling them as normal, through its recycling partner Close The Loop Group.

The initial message from Planet Ark was that the fire at Close The Loop, which has impacted the RedCycle soft plastic recycling programme, had also halted toner cartridge recycling. It said it was storing some 1.1 million cartridges. However Planet Ark later retracted its comments, saying that in fact Close the Loop was recycling 16,000 used cartridges a day.

Planet Ark said, “Close the Loop processes about 16,000 printer consumable units a day, and these continue to be received from all sources as per normal.

“These cartridges are not being stockpiled, which would refer to a broken supply chain with inactive processes.”

Close the Loop Group’s facility in Somerton takes used toner from some of the major print industry digital printing presses, and converts the used toner, and the cartridge casing, into a variety of recycled product, enabling print businesses to participate in a real circular economy.
