Manufactured in Japan by Horizon, the SmartSlitter is an all-in-one smart sheet processing system that will slit, gutter cut, edge trim, cross-cut, perforate, and crease, in one pass.

Peter Pawelzig, owner of Snap West Melbourne said, “As runs lengths shorten we wanted a finishing solution that was easy to operate, super-efficient, robust, and would always produce a quality job.

“As we looked around the Horizon SmartSlitter had the credentials we wanted. When we had a virtual demo and understood that it would read codes and set up automatically, we knew it was the system we wanted.

“We have a lot of intricate jobs that we need to score and fold, the SmartSlitter can handle them all. It takes pressure off our guillotine, and can handle a wide range of materials. Our very short run jobs – for instance 40 or 50 funeral cards – are handled easily on the SmartSlitter.”

Pawelzig has a track record with Horizon, the company already has a Horizon perfect binder, and a collator stitcher. He said, “The PUR is 30 years old, so we know the engineering quality of the machines is excellent.”

He said, “Like all the printers I know in Melbourne, we were impacted by Covid, but we are on the recovery path. We continually adjust our business, and we have set up efficient workflows to optimise all aspects of the business, including manufacturing. The SmartSlitter fits into that outlook. It is smart, delivering efficiencies, freeing up staff and other equipment.”

The SmartSlitter is supplied by Currie Group, Pawelzig said, “I have a lot of time for our Currie Group rep Vince Pignataro. He follows up and presents solutions, and he’s there when we have needed him.”

Taking any business through the past two decades has presented numerous challenges, and has been a time of adapting to a rapidly changing environment. Snap West Melbourne, with its commitment to quality equipment operating on efficient workflows, is well set to meet the challenges of the next 20 years.

Vince Pignataro, Victorian account manager at Currie Group said,  “After understanding the bottlenecks Peter was having within his organisation, we were able to assist with one of our popular Horizon SmartSlitters.

“The Horizon SmartSlitter gave Peter and his team the flexibility to trim, crease, slit and perforate all in the one pass if required. Something that would normally need multiple machines to achieve.

We thank Peter for the opportunity and for reaching out to Currie Group, we’re happy the Horizon fitted his requirements and budget. We look forward to assisting Peter and his team further in the future.”
