PRIMA PMI DOUBLES DISPLAY CAPACITY
Australia’s largest print-on-demand fulfiller, Prima PMI, has doubled its roll-to-roll display print capacity with the installation of a fleet of new Epson SureColor printers.
The fleet of new Epson printers is comprised of SureColor S60660L and SureColor T7760DL models, the decision to invest with Epson comes after an extensive analysis of the print solutions on the market by Prima PMI.
The doubling of capacity for Prima PMI comes from having a changed number of printers from its previous fleet, now retired, and the higher productivity of the new Epson.

An extensive analysis process kicked off with an RFP (request for proposal) with multiple manufacturers, who were invited to propose hardware which could deliver equivalent or better quality than the existing fleet at Prima PMI. Device consideration was entirely up to the manufacturers, with printers were pitched against each other through a due diligence process considering quality, durability, cost, consumables, speed, capital, and TCO. Five distributors were invited to participate in the RFP to support the consumable and support demands. Judah said, “After peer review with our sister facilities a decision was made to invest in Epson with a number of SureColor S60660L and SureColor T7760DL deployed.”

Prima PMI is part of the global District Photo and Harrier group, but this investment was a local decision. Amnon said, “We always peer review our technology choices within the group and test against previous or alternative infrastructure purchases, made for similar use cases in other regions.”
The 64” SureColor S60660L has dual printheads, a 12 litre continuous ink supply system, high capacity waste system, high capacity roll loading, high precision Auto Take Up (ATU), and blower style print drying system, with remote status monitoring and job reporting. It is compatible with paper, canvas, vinyl and film stocks. The Epson UltraChrome GS3 ink enables prints with high gloss, and high dMax. Epson says Precision Dot Technology with PrecisionCore printheads and eco-solvent ink, advanced MicroWeave and LUT, provide accurate and predictable colour.
The SC-T7760D comes with 2.64-inch PrecisionCore print heads, enabling poster and POP production at 27 sqm an hour, CAD and technical drawings at up to 130sqm an hour. It uses UltraChrome XD3 Ink for fine lines and solid fills giving what Epson says is vibrant imaging and enhanced colour gamut. It will print on glossy, bond, matte and speciality media, and rigid poster board up to 1.5mm thick.
