STUFF WINS PUBLICATIONS AWARD
Stuff claimed the 2024 Pride In Print Publications Category, for its production of The Post Weekend Te Upoko O Te Ika, Saturday December 9 Edition.
The job was printed at Stuff’s print production plant in Petone on a Man Roland Geoman double-width press, using Kodak Sonora plates, on Norske Skog 40gsm newsprint, with Huber coldset inks.
Delighted with the recognition of his team’s high-quality work, Stuff Petone printing plant day shift printing supervisor Andy Brown reiterated the importance of timely production of The Post Weekend – the Saturday edition of Wellington’s daily metropolitan newspaper.
He said, “What is impressive about this entry is the size of the paper – a 40-page broadsheet newspaper. It was printed on three of the four printing towers of our press.
“It is a time-critical job – there are delivery deadlines to be met. To be able to produce a copy with the quality of registration and consistency of colour throughout with the pressures of deadlines to be met is quite an achievement.”
Making the award the judges said, “With strong colour depth and almost faultless registration, this was a very well printed newspaper.
“Such high quality was achieved despite the very short lead time and presses running at speeds of 40,000 copies per hour – with operators having just 30 minutes from the start of production to providing the first batch of completed editions for waiting delivery trucks.
“With the entire print run needing to be completed within just three hours, there was also little opportunity to make corrections on the press. To consequently produce such a colourful, vibrant and clean publication is testament to the quality of the machinery and personnel involved.”
