VMA LAUNCHES 2024 INDUSTRY METRICS SURVEY
The Visual Media Association is launching its 2024 Annual Industry Metrics Survey for members and industry, with printers having until Friday 20 September to contribute for this year.
Building on the success of last year’s survey, the first in a decade, the data collected will provide insight into industry trends and forecasts to strengthen business planning.
The 30-minute survey captures salary benchmarks, skills and training levels and shortages, employment demographics, customer group breakdowns, certifications, operational practices, perceived challenges and more.
Produced with members and key industry stakeholders, the survey has been refined over the past twelve months to build on the launch survey last year.
The primary aim is to provide members and industry, investors, government and key stakeholders valuable insights into the state of the industry to support informed decisions, establish business benchmarks to best practice, and identify trends.
Kellie Northwood, CEO, VMA, said, “Our industry is the largest manufacturing employer, with a highly skilled workforce, however with an ageing workforce. We are an $18.9bn industry and operate across regional and metropolitan locations. These statements can only be made because we have the industry metrics to confirm these positions.
“Our members are keen to understand their own benchmarking and prepare for industry forecasting which is a big part of the Annual Industry Metrics survey.”
The industry is seeking to understand general business averages to benchmark and build best practice advisement for members, as well as using the data to build tools to assist members in setting performance targets to improve year-on-year.
The Annual Industry Metrics Survey is supported by Ricoh Australia, under a continuation of its industry partnership with the Visual Media Association, taking the partnership into its third year providing valued support to major initiatives such as the Annual Industry Metrics.
"We’re honoured to support the VMA in its quest to support industry best practices through the annual metrics survey,” said Mark Moro, national graphic communications sales manager, Ricoh Australia. “Without accurate and informed data, businesses can miss opportunities and are unable to effectively plan for the future. We look forward to working with the VMA in supporting the industry to unlock value in a timely manner and successfully achieve individual enterprise objectives.”
The survey results will be released across Australia at a series of live events in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane starting late October, through to November across Ricoh showrooms. The results and insights from the survey will be compiled into two reports: an in-depth analysis for VMA members and contributors, and a summary report released publicly.

I do also thank Ricoh Australia as it represents a supplier partnering with the industry for mutual success,’” concluded Northwood.
