VMA TO HOST INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION SUMMIT
The Visual Media Association has issued invitations to all nine of print’s trade associations, to join what would be the first summit between the various bodies representing print and print people.

The VMA is seeking to build a stronger collective voice, share insights, and develop collaborative initiatives that drive improved deliverables for members and industry.
Kellie Northwood, CEO, Visual Media Association, said, “We see the meeting as the first of many opportunities to come together and strengthen our collective impact. This is not just about discussion; it’s about action and ensuring that we are future proofing our industry in a rapidly changing landscape.”
The summit, scheduled for next month, is calling for collaboration and exploration of common initiatives that can be developed as one between the nine print trade associations.
Those invited by VMA to the summit in Melbourne next month include the Australian Paper Industry Association, the Australian Sign and Graphics Association (Asga), the Country Press Association, Fespa, FPLMA, LIA, Women in Print, and Visual Connections.
Northwood said, “With so many important initiatives being worked on across our industry, this Summit provides an opportunity to align our efforts, discuss challenges, and develop common strategies in a more formal setting.”
There is currently a limited collaboration between the associations, most notable is the successful long-term partnership between VMA and suppliers’ association Visual Connections to deliver the country’s trade show PacPrint, but apart from that the associations tend to operate individually.
Northwood said, “We know that by working together, we can achieve more – whether it be in skills and training, government advocacy, industry standards, sustainability or networking events.”
An initial focus of the April meeting will be developing a working document to represent the industry in the pending federal election briefings. It is believed an initial document the ‘Australian Print Industry Election Briefing Paper’, drafted by the VMA is being shared for amendment.
The VMA is inviting industry bodies across Australia to contribute their perspectives to ensure a unified and impactful message is delivered to all political parties. “The federal election presents an opportunity for our industry, and we can seize this window to present a coordinated advocacy agenda,” Northwood continued. “We encourage all associations to share their input, ensuring the issues that matter most to our members are heard loud and clear.”
The Summit will also explore practical and strategic opportunities, such as developing a common industry activity calendar, enhancing industry metrics, and fostering collaboration on lobbying efforts.
