Beaver Press gets the chop
Confusion surrounds the fate of well-known Sydney printer, Beaver Press as it enters administration.
The Redfern-based company was reportedly set to merge with PE-backed Chippendale Printing before entering administration. A spokesperson from chartered accountants and business advisers, PKF, which is handling the administration, was not available for comment.
It remains to be seen whether the merger will proceed. Managing director of Chippendale Printing, Fred Van Steel, was unable to shed any light on the situation, by confirming or denying the status of the reported merger.
Van Steel was quick to hit back at on-going talk that his company was in trouble. “It’s just rumour – welcome to the rumour mill,” he told Print21.
According to Van Steel the industry as a whole is far from recovering from the effects of the GFC, and this uncertainty is affecting all printing businesses. “Anyone who says that they’re not finding it tough is lying,” he added.
