Digital printers hit to road for Variety Bash

Great mates Bruce Peddlesden of On Demand, Peter Benjamin of Discus Digital Print and Phillip Rennell, Currie Group prepare to drive from regional Victoria to Tasmania for this year’s annual 2011 Variety Victoria Bash.

The trio will take to the road for 12 days from 22 August to 2 September in the faithful 1968 HR Holden, which Benjamin drove in last year’s trip from Victoria to Western Australia. This year, he will be joined by Peddlesden, who he has known since school and the Currie Group’s sales and marketing director, Phillip Rennell.

“When I was invited, I thought that it was a great opportunity to get involved in such a worthwhile charity,” Rennell told Print21. “We want to make sure that the printing industry gets behind it … the car will be a printing-themed vehicle.”

Peddlesden stressed that the three men are paying their own way and that all money raised goes toward Variety, a charity which works directly with individual families and organisations to help Victorian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.

“We will be undertaking a lot of fundraising, looking at anything we can do to raise money,” Peddlesden said. Already, he has written out a cheque for $1,600 which came from client’s donations. This is only the beginning.

“I hope that the entire printing industry gets right behind us,” Rennell said.

The 12-day journey sees entrants start in the city of Melbourne and finish at Devonport, Tasmania with visits to popular tourist destinations such as Mount Wellington and the Gordon River along the way. For more information visit www.variety.org.au/vic
