After 89 years of faithful service to Western Australia’s business community, Perth’s Pilpel Print is closing down. “It’s not a liquidation or administration,” says MD Geoff Pilpel. “We have successfully sold Pilpel Print and sister company Print Finishing Line and jobs have been transferred." The buyer is well-known WA company, Advance Press.
In what can only be described as a model of how to wind down a printing business, Pilpel adds that all staff entitlements have been paid and any remaining equipment is for sale or auction on www.printmachines4sale.com.
All equipment, in full production until the end of August 2016, will be sold off via this website.
Joshua Pilpel founded Pilpel Print in 1927. As a Western Australian printing pioneer, Pilpel Print set the standard for printing services in Perth. The company grew to become an industry leader in the delivery of Offset, Letterpress and later Digital printing, and became one of the state’s most-awarded printing firms under Joshua’s son Richard (Dick) Pilpel, Geoff’s father, and then Geoff himself.
At the 2014 WA PICA Awards, Pilpel Print famously scooped all three awards for fine letterpress work – gold silver and bronze. In the 2003 National Print Awards, Pilpel was the only WA printer to win a gold award of any kind.
“It is regrettable that we have had to close,” says Pilpel. "With my father now in his 80s and myself looking towards retirement, we tried various solutions but I think the way it has worked out is the best solution possible in today’s economic climate. I would like to express my sincere thanks to our loyal staff past and present, our loyal customers and the Perth printing community of which my family have been proud to be part of for almost nine decades.”
Pilpel Print’s walls are decked with dozens of PICA and NPA awards indicating that all equipment is in very good condition. Pre-auction offers are invited for consideration and some items have already been sold. Remaining equipment will be auctioned starting October 10th.
Inspection is welcome from Tuesday 4th October to Friday 7th October between 8am and 4pm (AWST), or by appointment outside these times. Inspections are onsite at Pilpel Print, 148 Beaufort Street, Perth, Western Australia 6000.
