Marvel Bookbinding & Printfinishing has snapped up the hard case book binding infrastructure from M&M Binders in the wake of the restructure of the new Docklands Press/Ability Press entity in Melbourne.

“For us, it’s the final piece of the puzzle,” said Wayne Eastaugh, MD of Melbourne-based Marvel, the largest independently owned finishing trade house in Australia.

“We’re taking 12 machines and four key operators from M&M and we’re knocking down a wall to access the required factory space right next door to our current premises in Heidelberg West.  We’ll all be operating all under the one roof and have a total of about 7,000 sq metres of space. All of the key staff have agreed to the move and are indeed excited to join the Marvel team.”

Marvel has been a fully independent supplier to the Australian print industry for over 29 years.

“We’ve covered every other aspect of finishing except the case binding and now we can offer the whole gambit,” said Eastaugh. “A lot of new work will come from publishers but we’ve also been under intense pressure from clients both old and new to make this move because many of our general clients are always looking for case binding.

The move will happen over the month of September and Marvel plans to be fully operational from the first week of October.

Here’s the full equipment list that Marvel has acquired:

1 x Kolbus Case Maker DA260 with Co-pilot

1 x Kolbus Embosing Press PE312 with Co-Pilot
