Richard Rasmussen, director of Ascent Partners, looks at all the local market’s activities over the last month from mergers and acquisitions to closures, major equipment sales and installations in April 2013.

Victoria saw the closure of Vega Press (VIC), and the purchase of their client base by Print Media Group, the sale of Four Trade only to Lamson Paragon and BPA being bought out of receivership by NSW Group, Print Warehouse.

Print Warehouse was also active in purchasing Dynamic Print Communications on the Gold Coast.  In QLD Monoset Printing appointed a receiver.

In the ACT the Blue Star Hume site was announced to be closed by the end of April.

NSW saw the liquidation of Park Printing and Spectrum Printing.

SA’s Precision Cutting Formes had a creditor’s meeting for voluntary creditor’s liquidation and Birmingham Street Printers had a notice inviting debt claims issued by BDO.

On a brighter note in NZ, Dpod’s sale to Image Centre was reported to have resulted in a rise in sales to NZ $50 million. Whilst in Christchurch, APN’s Christchurch Star and Omara Mail were sold to Mainland Media.

From the Supplier side, Currie Group purchased Universal Print Partners, Luscher went into bankruptcy, and DES opened a new office in WA.

Major Installations and Sales

Manroland was successful in securing numerous web related orders for the imminent relocation of Fairfax’s plants in Victoria and NSW.

Auckland’s Benefitz purchased a Dianippon Screen B2 Inket press, the Truepress Jet SX.

In NSW, Heidelberg reported three sales of the new Linoprint digital presses to three unnamed printers. And Dragon Print installed a Screen Platewrite FX 87011 XL Flexo CtP.

Victoria’s Kosdown Printing installed a MGI Meteor DP 8700XL Digital Press.
