CACTUS INTO FLATBED WITH NEW DURST
Cactus Imaging has made its first move into inhouse flatbed printing, ordering the country's first Durst P5 350 HS D4 hybrid press, and says the speed and versatility of its investment will enable the company to meet its clients requirements.
The press, which can be switched between a roll-to-roll and flatbed application, will be the first of its type to be installed in the country, and is expected to arrive in March, says Keith Ferrel, general manager operations at Cactus Imaging.
"Our clients have a larger necessity for flatbed work and the fact that this printer will print up to 3.5 metres allows us to print most of what we currently do roll-to-roll, and then print the increased volume of flatbed work we are receiving," said Ferrel.
"In addition to the versatility, the machine will give us the speed and quality we have been looking for, which is a huge plus," he added.
The powerhouse print business has been roll-to-roll until now, the new Durst is the first flatbed for Cactus, albeit a hybrid one.
“We were getting that much work requiring flatbed work and had to find ways around it, or outsource the work,” said Ferrel.
Durst says that with the introduction of the expanded P5 platform, which "provides optimum performance, from pixel to output", a new standard in flexibility and versatility was defined in the class of hybrid printing.
The P5 350 is the hybrid solution for roll and board printing up to 3.5m, and reaches in the high-speed version a productivity up to 650 sqm/h. Durst says it offers fast media change, easy maintenance handling and full safety.
Durst says the P5 Double 4 (D4) technology takes this a step further, and “maximises the productivity” of the P5 UV series printing systems through the implementation of a double CMYK colour configuration.
