OUTDOOR SPEND SURGES IN HALF YEAR
Spending on outdoor media approached pre-Covid levels in the first half of the year, with printed media taking in $180m, up by eight per cent on the same time last year.
The Out of Home industry’s total half year net media revenue of $478.6m was up 19.5 per cent from $400.4m for the same period in 2021.
Digital’s market share growth continued, now approaching two thirds, with Digital Out of Home revenue accounting for 62.4 per cent of total net media revenue year-to-date, an increase over the recorded 58.3 per cent for the same period last year, while print’s share slipped below 40 per cent for the first time, to 37.6 per cent.
However, spend on print was up by $14m on last year’s figure, as the market continued its rebound from the Covid doldrums.
For the half year to June, Roadside Billboards hit record highs, Roadside Other continued its upward trajectory but remains below its pre-Covid levels, Retail, Lifestyle and Others is now back above the pre-Covid result, while Transport, which includes Airports, still has a long way to go to get back to former levels, but nonetheless grew by 50 per cent in the half year over the same period last year.
Half-year net media revenue category figures are provided from 2019 to capture the growth of the industry.
