SYDNEY PRINTER WINS TOP US AWARD
NSW printer Body of Work, which is part of the Armstrong design and print agency, has taken out the top wide format award at the big US print show Printing United.
The complex job took out both the Best Category Award for Poster / Fine Art and the Printed Product of the Year Award Wide Format Inkjet.
It was printed on a Roland DG IU-1000F. It is so intricate it took a week to print, and required perfect registration of clear images and final image. There are 16 layers of intricate masking, and 16 layers of varnish are applied before the final image – all in perfect registration. The weight of the layers of varnish is so much that it required a stable aluminium substrate.
Commenting on Best of Category, the judges said it was a “breathtaking use of depth and texture. Excellent execution. Beautiful fine details.”
And the judges’ comments for Printed Product of the Year were, “This piece has excellent fine lines in the hair, overall texture, and the use of the gold is impressive. We are impressed with the realistic features like the well-defined beads, the coins and the flesh tones in the body. There is eye catching contrast and sharpness in this piece. Very good edge definition against a flawless black background.”
