On-demand die-cutter extends Horizon lead in post press equipment

The revolutionary rotary die-cutter, RD-4055, is the latest automated product from the Japanese brand with the largest range of finishing solutions in the industry. Focused on the digital commercial printing sector it will transform how printers add value to their output.

Postpress is where print is differentiated from commodity. It’s where printers transform the sheets coming off the press into saleable items, multiplying their intrinsic worth.

According to Eijiro Hori, president of Horizon, the leading Japanese manufacturer of finishing equipment, postpress is a treasure house where printers with the right solutions can transform every $1 of print into $8 of product. It is the foundation of his family-owned company based in Kyoto that produces over 100 different finishing products, the largest by far of any manufacturer.

Where other manufacturers concentrate on different parts of the finishing process be it folding, die-cutting or, bindery, Horizon address the entire workflow with original designed solutions. The latest addition is the RD-4055, a highly automated die-cutter developed for the commercial printer who outputs a diverse range of products on a daily basis.

Already finding buyers in Australia and across the world, it is merely the latest in a long line of finishing products that have come from the iconic brand over its 69 year history.  From folders to collators, perfect binding lines to saddle stitchers, three-knife trimmers to creasers, the Horizon portfolio accounts for all processes in print finishing, capturing 85% of the entire finishing market. Even in Germany, home of such brands as Stahl and MBO, Horizon claims its folders are the market leaders.

Further product line development is underway at the company’s Biwako manufacturing plant an hour from Kyoto, where it designs and produces 70% of all components. Latest to follow the RD-4055 is the new APC-610 paper cutter.
